Responsibilities

The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for training of all insurance verification representative, distributing daily work to employees based on Alpha Split, training all ancillary departments, attending in-service/training with insurance companies and vendors regarding updates, changes or department trends, work closely with Business Office regarding denials related to insurance related errors with payer assignment, authorization, out of network payers, verification of eligibility, insurance benefits, authorizations, pre-certification and payments of patients receiving services at OakBend Medical Center. The Insurance Verification Specialist is required to contact patients by phone to discuss total amount due to hospital for services rendered, setup payment arrangements and assist patients with insurance plans that are complex. Must be have insurance expertise, analytical thinking skills, communication and writing skills, attention to details, computer competencies an be able to key data entry timely and efficient.

 

This position’s first and foremost responsibility is to protect the financial integrity of OakBend Medical Center. There are multiple locations within OakBend Medical Center requiring Insurance Verification Specialist services (i.e., Jackson St, Williams Way, New Territory and Wharton). While the day to day duties vary, the primary responsible is maximizing reimbursement and obtaining authorizations for all required services rendered. The Insurance Verification Specialist must ensure that each account has complete benefit verifications, appropriate authorizations, and that all out-of-pocket expenses are explained to our patients and financial arrangements made and are followed through per current procedures including uninsured patients. Protecting the financial health of OakBend Medical Center and providing exemplary customer service to our internal and external customers.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

 

High school diploma or GED; relevant experience in lieu of High School Diploma/GED education will be considered.

 

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:

 

3 years of experience in insurance verification and authorization required.

None

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

 

Excellent interpersonal skills required. Typing of 35 wpm.
